Joining the Powder Ridge Ski Patrol

Thank you for your interest in joining the Powder Ridge Ski & Snowboard Patrol. The Powder Ridge Patrol is a volunteer organization that provides emergency care services to the patrons of the Powder Ridge Ski and Snowboard area.

Our ski patrol consists of member both young and old, dedicating their time for the benefit of area skiers. We ski to have fun, while assisting persons requiring emergency medical assistance. All patrollers work approximately four or five shifts (each shift is approximately four hours long) each month of the ski season.

Membership

Membership requires a certain degree of commitment but the rewards can be great. Members learn wilderness survival skills and advanced first aid. Meet fun people with similar interests. Provide a valuable community service. Get great exercise, improve skiing, build confidence and have fun doing it.

Patrolling is not just limited to skiing. We also have patrollers that snowboard and telemark.

What We Require

Time

The ski commitment is ten patrol days per season (about one weekend per month). The required Outdoor Emergency Care first aid course consists of about fifty hours of classroom time over a period of three months (this may vary). Full NSP certification training requires an additional two or three weekends and about six evenings. Annual CPR, first aid & trail refresher courses require two or three days per season. Additional training opportunities are available for those who want more.

Money
There is a nominal fee for the Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) course. Included for the fee are the excellent textbooks and the NSP Ski Patroller's Manual, as well as the instruction. Your equipment doesn't have to be the best gear available.

Commitment Level
We have three main levels of membership: Candidate, Auxiliary and Alpine Patroller. Once you become an Alpine Patroller you may also work towards Senior and Certified Patroller.

    Candidate
The training program takes three months in the fall and one full ski season of on hill training to complete.

Auxiliary Patrollers have not yet completed the on hill classes but are Required to work 4 to 5 shifts per month including some holidays.

    Alpine Patroller
